In high school I learned that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or changed into a different form. And power is energy over time (and that’s just about everything I remember from the Thermodynamics chapter in AP Physics, sorry Ms. Lieux).. But this is not a physics blog, I want to talk about how this same scientific formula is applicable to life – just hear me out!
We wake up every morning with energy, believe it or not! And every human being wakes up to the very same 24 hours in a day. However, different people spend it differently. For example, some like to wake up early to make breakfast and walk the dog then hit the gym before work – can’t relate. Others like to sleep in only to wake up and watch Netflix before spending hours scrolling through Instagram – which is fine! However, some people don’t do any of those things and instead wake up only to mope and complain about what the world owes them. Or worry and stress about all the things that are wrong or unfair in life no matter the size. These are the people who yell at their Starbucks barista for forgetting to add whipped cream to their caramel macchiato. š¦
Positive and negative energy equally, you are in control of how you spend your god-given energy. So, expend your energy as positively as possible by appreciating the beauty in life, in yourself, in others, and contributing to your community. Be cognizant of when you allow your energy to be negatively consumed by sadness, anger, jealousy, insecurity, greed, or violence. Learn to be aware of your thoughts, this way you can act with purpose and direction. Remember that in every situation you areĀ the narrator, you choose what is worthy of your reaction and what is not. Your energy introduces you before you even say a word.
Similar to energy is time, you can’t add hours to the day or make a minute any shorter or longer than 60 seconds. But you can choose how you spend every one of those minutes that become hours. Whether it be wisely or wastefully, they must be spent someway – right? So next time you feel like laying around feeling bad about yourself and your failures – instead, transfer that negative energy and waste of time towards creating a plan to be better and let it start today rather than tomorrow. Your goals are going to take a lot of power so remain focused and attentive.
So be mindful of where, on who, and why you spend your energy and time – we all have the same 24 hours (even Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez). Manage your energy and your time will manage itself. So, Reinas, what are you doing with your power today?
